a community of people from across the country advocating for legislation and humanization on behalf of a largely forgotten sector of our population: formerly and currently incarcerated individuals.
In state capitols across the U.S., members of the Empathy Network hosted events and met face-to-face with their lawmakers, some of whom had never met a formerly incarcerated person before.
The goal was to build empathy for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system, for survivors of violence, and for people in recovery.
Our theory of change is that empathy is the key to bringing sustained, transformative changes to our criminal justice system.
